Karen Timson Hera

Karen Timson Fine Fragrance: Hera

If you’re looking for a zingy, zesty fragrance that gets you compliments and lasts all day, then come closer, for I have news. Karen Timson Fine Fragrance Hera is not only exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s a) affordable and b) doesn’t smell affordable. That’s a win/win in my book/blog.

Karen Timson is an independent perfumer based in England who has created a small but perfectly formed perfume house that also includes candles and reed diffusers. The Moon Palace reed diffuser holds a record in my house for lasting nearly FIVE MONTHS. I even kept the pretty pot as a bud vase.

Hera by Gustave Moreau

Hera opens with uplifting citrus notes so sharp that you’ll be wide awake after one spray. Inspired by Zeus giving the Goddess Hera orange blossom on her wedding day, this is a fragrance that will elevate you to proper Goddess mode. The radiant orange notes lead into bold and heady orange blossom, spring- like and almost glowing with wholesomeness as they fill the room. The perfume claims to smell of “oranges, neroli and sunshine,” and I absolutely agree. I can’t tell you what a sunshine note smells like, but it’s definitely here, as welcome as a breeze in a stuffy room.

By the way, in case you were wondering about the difference between orange blossom and neroli, it’s the same thing but neroli is steam distilled. I can’t personally tell the difference, but a perfumer would be able to.

Karen Timson Hera hangs on to its citrus notes for a long time and this is no mean feat. Citrus notes are notorious for arriving with a bang and floating away swiftly afterwards, but somehow Karen Timson has persuaded them to stick around. Hera is a breathtakingly energising and feel-good fragrance. it is the promise of blue skies and fresh starts. In case you were wondering, it would make a superb wedding scent. If it’s good enough for a Goddess…
