Avon Far Away Beyond the Moon Parfum 2023

From the 2023 archive: Avon Far Away Beyond the Moon was created by renowned perfumers Olivier Gillotin (Lancome, Tom Ford, Calvin Klein), Hernan Fígoli (Adidas, L’Occitane Brazil) and Marypierre Julien (Chloe, Armani, Victoria’s Secret). It is the latest fragrance to join Avon’s bestselling Far Away collection, with its distinctive round bottle and spherical lid, still going strong since its birth in 1994. Far Away Beyond The Moon comes in a beautiful midnight blue glass bottle with a moonlit seascape on the box. It’s built around a heart of the whimsically named Lady of The Night Flower (aka Belle de Nuit) with top notes of cherry and a base of sandalwood and vanilla.

When I first sprayed this, I thought it was a vanilla centric gourmand, but after a minute I realised it was indeed cherries. The fruitiness is bold and immediate and pretty much sticks around the whole time. As for the floral notes, well, I can’t pretend I know what Lady of The Night Flower smells like, but it’s most definitely a white floral, with a jasmine like headiness that has a pleasing floral presence here. Combined with the cherries, it’s match made in heaven. Cherries and white flowers should just get married; they’re perfect for each other. The vanilla is warm and sweet, making this perfect for gourmand fans. The surprising thing about this is that my teenage son just complimented me on how nice I smelled- and that really doesn’t happen very often.

So, the verdict of Avon Far Away Beyond The Moon? A sensual, gourmand delight with some very grown up florals. Lasting power around five hours (this is parfum strength!).
