We’ve tried Banana with Oud, we’ve sprayed Choco Tuberose, and we’ve been Bamboozled by Cocktail Bamboozle. Now it’s time for one of my favourite notes to step on to the stage in Avon’s Perfect Nonsense collection. Enter fig, stage left, accompanied by her close friend Matcha. Until their screen test, nobody realised their chemistry was off the scale, and they both got the part on the spot.

It is less playful than other Perfect Nonsense perfumes, uniting greenery, milky/fruity fig and the subtle spice of matcha tea. I could imagine smelling this on a smart gentleman emerging from a posh barber, or a woman entering a yoga class. It smells spa-like, modern and smells as if it costs a lot more than the £15 it is currently retailing for.

According to Avon, it’s a Woody Aromatic. According to me, it’s a Woody Aromatic with subtle gourmand notes that smell like you’ve spent a lot on a niche fig scent. Once it warms up on your skin, you may also find violet, lavender, cardamom, amber, lily of the valley and patchouli. After a while, when it’s made itself at home, there is a distinct warmth wafting in your wake, and the amber and cardamom are very much a part of that autumnal sillage.
In a blind test, nobody would guess this cost a mere £15. It’s versatile, unisex, green, classy, aromatic and did I mention? Really beautiful. Chef’s kiss to Master Perfumer Leslie Gauthier, who created this irresistible eau de parfum.
Where to buy it
You can buy Avon Perfect Nonsense Figgy Matcha from the Avon UK website for £15. There’s also shower gel, body milk and body mist, if you like layering, like I do. Avon can discontinue with ruthless aplomb, so if you love it, stock up. If it’s a big seller, it might stick around. I hope so.
Disclosure
I was kindly sent my bottle of Figgy Matcha by the Avon team, with no strings attached. My opinion of it and my decision to review it are both my own.
