Lancôme Trésor: why it’s still a Treasure

I often feel that Lancôme Trésor is like an older child that has been eclipsed by a super cute baby sibling. In this case, Lancôme La Vie est Belle has pretty much taken over Lancôme counters, flankers and all. If you want Trésor, you sometimes have to ask if it can come out to play before the SA will rummage under the counter for it.

The original La Vie est Belle

Today I reminded myself why Trésor really is a treasure. I’ve been wearing it all day and basking in the pleasure of its beautiful scent. The perfumer behind this was the genius that is Sophia Grojsman. If you know Calvin Klein Eternity, YSL Paris, Estée Lauder White Linen, Estée Lauder Beautiful, and YSL Yvresse, then you’ll know her incredible body of work.

Lancôme Trésor opens with sumptuous apricots and roses. In the 90s, these were, to my nose, the two most dominant notes. However, coming back to it with more sniffage under my belt, I can discern the smoothest of iris, conjuring lilac suede, and a whole bunch of creamy white flowers. It’s a fruity floral that doesn’t conjure the sweet red berry concoctions of the last decade. Instead, Grojsman blends the fruit and flowers so seamlessly that you start to believe that roses have petals made of baby soft peach skin.

Another feature that didn’t register with me before, is the ambery, cosy ending. With apricotty nuances still peeking through, a hug of amber and a cuddle of vanilla keeps this stunning masterpiece as timeless and tempting as it was (gulp) thirty six years ago, when I was twenty. Oh crikey, I’m old. I say it’s time for a revival! Wear the classics with pride. Start with this one.

Where to buy it

Lancôme Trésor is widely available from Lancôme counters, if you move La Vie est Belle and its pretty gang out of the way. You can also buy it online. Try Perfume Click where a 30ml bottle is currently under £35. I say it’s time for a revival! Wear the classics with pride.
