Iscentyouaday is back!

Welcome if you’re new! Welcome back if you’re an iscentyouaday veteran!

My original blog, iscentyouaday, began in 2013. For over twenty years, aside from a passionate affair with Gucci Envy, I had worn Chanel Cristalle, and no other perfume. When I had children, I couldn’t afford Chanel anymore and all my money went on Calpol, Milton and Pampers for a while (not for me). It was around this time that I, by necessity, discovered a love of much cheaper, affordable perfumes. My writing muscles were itching to get back to work, so a perfume blog was born.

The name comes from the fact that I was going to try a perfume a day for a year and write about it. I was scenting your day, if you like. Eleven years and three Jasmine Award nominations later, (neat stealth brag, there), I closed the blog. My day job was using up all my bandwidth and my poor blog was looking deserted and dusty. I closed it down and took the pressure off myself. Well, not, really, I wrote a novel (watch this space). Over a year later, I missed writing fragrance reviews so much that I started again, and it feels good. Unfortunately, the old material has been deleted, as I didn’t take advantage of the cooling off period offered by my hosting site. No matter, this is a fresh start, with maybe some recycled reviews from my notes. I like recycling.

Hopefully, my reviews will make you want to try some of the perfumes they describe. Even more hopefully, you’ll try a fragrance I recommended and it becomes a firm favourite. I am delighted when this happens.

I don’t get paid for writing reviews. I do get send stuff from brands and I will always declare it, although I do purchase too, and will say so. My opinion cannot be bought. I also avoid negativity. If a fragrance really disagrees with me, I won’t write about it. You may also find that I eschew the idea of ladies’ fragrances and men’s fragrances. Old Spice is underrated as a floral, and men smell great in rose attars. Speaking of Old, the phrase “old lady fragrance” is banned for life on here. Don’t even think about it!

My real passion is for the small and independent brands who have started from scratch on their own. You’ll see a lot of reviews about them.

Welcome to all fragrance lovers, old and new! Make yourself at home and mind the cat.
