Memoize (pronounced like memoirs) is a small UK fine fragrance house that was founded in 2016. The fragrances are loosely based around the seven deadly sins: gluttony, lust, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride. Today I’m reviewing Memoize Humanitas, from the Light Range, which encapsulates our more angelic side. As the world spins into chaos, Humanitas is a scent the world needs right now, along with some Burt Bacharach.

Humanitas smells like a day out with your best friend. You begin your day with lunchtime aperitifs. Here comes the scent of a tropical fruit cocktail; sweet, playful and refreshing. Peaches, oranges and passion fruit set the tone for the day ahead. Fully refreshed, it’s time to go to the posh florist, where your BF (best friend, unless you’re on Mumsnet, in which case, boyfriend), showers you with the most luxuriant bouquet that money can buy. You’ll leave the florist with armfuls of hydrangea, roses, purple iris, lilies and palest pink magnolia.
Humanitas is extrait de parfum strength (i.e 25% perfume oil), so that warm glow will stay with you all day, and a very warm glow it is too. Patchouli and amber embrace you all day, like a buddy that stays by your side until sleepy time. There’s a strong thread of something as rich as Cognac running through this fragrance. If I didn’t know better, I’d say it was a white oud or ambroxan. I may be wrong about the precise note or accord, but this je ne sais quoi really switches this up into a league of its own.
Memoize Humanitas is hard to squeeze into a genre. It’s a shape shifter of a fragrance that defies prescriptive category. It’s interesting, original, STRONG and need I even mention? It smells beautiful. It’s also cruelty free, vegan and unisex.
Everybody, this is my friend Humanitas.
