Join me for rose scented adventures! No rose perfume is ever on my naughty list, but I do have a particular soft spot for rose fragrances that offer a little something different. Let me introduce you to Greek perfumer Manos Gerakinis and one of his beautiful fragrances, Rose Poetique. I hope you’ll enjoy it.

We all know that roses have been done to death, and yet somehow the clamour for them never dies. I should know because I’m one of the clamourers. Whereas rose and oud combos don’t excite me (unless as a room fragrance, then all bets are off), rose and patchouli fragrances never fail to light me up. Rose Poetique is a masterful rose scent blended with patchouli, labdanum (think leathery rock roses) and, rather innovatively, rhubarb and raspberry. With a heavy and lingering woody base of sandalwood and cashmere woods, a delicate balance is struck. The rhubarb is a perfect foil for rose, (if you’ve smelled Parfums de Marly Delina you may agree) but add a juicy raspberry that can be as tart as it can be playful, and you have an intriguing enigma of a fragrance.

What I love about Manos Gerakinis Rose Poetique is the way that the rose dominates from start to finish, but with different accents throughout the day. In the morning you’ll be a rosy fruit cocktail and by evening, a smouldering vixen, but throughout, that elegant rose (in my mind it’s deep red) will not leave you. The patchouli grounds it and give it resonance and depth, and the smoky woods entice it into an evening of promise. Cue deep sigh of pleasure from yours truly. Rose-heads will love it. This is exquisitely done.
