Avon Perfect Nonsense Peppery Peaches

Introducing Avon Perfect Nonsense Peppery Peaches. Created by perfumers Shyamala Maisondieu and Nisrine Bouazzaoui Grillié, this is indeed Perfect Nonsense. In other words, up close, it doesn’t make sense, stand back and look at the whole picture, and wow! Why don’t we do this all the time?

You already know what peaches smell like, but in case you’re unsure of which pepper is being used here, it’s pink pepper, which is a berry, not a spice, although it can be dried and ground.

Something about Peppery Peaches smells fluffy and powdery, often the calling card of iris or musks, but that not it. According to Fragrantica, there is a note of velvet in here. Velvet is obviously a fantasy note, like amber and cashmere, which have no smell in real life, but if you enjoy a flight of whimsy and are partial to fabric conditioner with “silk” in it, then go with the flow. I am.

In the case of Peppery Peaches, the velvet notes do indeed add fluffiness and smoothness, which brings to mind one of my returning tropes of a messy, powdery and incredibly glamorous dressing table. Peaches are not new in perfume. Indeed, they feature in many of the great classics, such as Lanvin Arpege and the mighty Guerlain Mitsouko, but Peppery Peaches is a modern girl rather than a Grande Dame. If you haven’t liked peaches before, try them again. This peach ls outdoorsy, yet it couples comfortably with pink pepper, each bringing out the other’s sweet side, like a glass of sherry in a favourite Aunt.

The chorus here is made up of osmanthus for a suede-y apricot feel, and cosy benzoin and tonka, for the cuddly factor. Roses and white flowers add the harmonies but never take over the solo.

All in all, this is a fresh, fruity, sweet, (but not sugary), fragrance treasure. Peachy , playful and practically perfect (nonsense) in every way.
