If you’re familiar with the luxurious and covetable perfumes from this house, then you may be expecting Atelier Des Ors Riviera Sunrise to be as glorious as it sounds. I can confirm that it is. In a glass bottle as blue as the Mediterranean itself, the flakes of gold leaf make this into a snow globe for grown ups. When you shake the bottle, the leaves dance in the blue like sunlight on the sea. Poetic? I’m just warming up.

Bright citrus fruit, plump and ripe, has been sliced and iced ready to refresh even the most jaded of palates. Glistening under the high morning sun, I can think of few more energising visions than the sunny yellow and orange that seem to burst out of this jewel-like bottle. Riviera Sunrise is a lemony, orangey delight and unlike many flightier citrus fragrances, they have nowhere better to go than to hang around with you and dance all day.

What could be more summery and Riviera-like? Well orange blossom and fig actually, so here it comes, adding a green bower of milky fig, verdant basil and breezy white blossom. Some light woody touches barely add shade to the sunshine, but they offer a calming shawl of pale musk across sun warmed shoulders. If Atelier Des Ors Pomelo Riviera was the nirvana for grapefruit fans, then this is its counterpart, and you’ll find it enjoying a very long lunch on the Côte D’Azur. The sea, the gin and tonic and you: all sparkling.

A note about the packaging: this comes in a beautiful white box with an embossed sleeve, opening like a little secret drawer to reveal your bottle inside. It feels like taking jewellery out of a case.
