Those nice people at Library of Fragrance have been kind enought to send me some bottles to review. As much as I want to rub my hands together like a miser and refer to them as “The Precious”, it is only fair that I spread the joy. After all, it is Christmas and a good deed goes round the world.
I will be giving away a bottle of Cupcake, Blue Spruce and Log Cabin. All you have to do is comment below, or on my Facebook page, or on Twitter ( @IScentYouADay) to tell me which of the three you would like to win. The giveaway closes at midnight on 17th December 2016 so I’ve got time toget it to you before Christmas. The giveaway is stricrly UK only, I’m afraid, due to postage regulations. But don’t worry, that’ll all chage when I’m Queen of the World. I am also on Instagram, so you can follow me there too! I’m iscentyouaday.
They came, they played, they conquered. It’s all over bar the tidying up. Andy Murray took the Wimbledon Title for the second time today and made the country proud. Congratulations Andy! and well done to everyone who made it as far as Wimbledon even if you just ended up with sore muscles and a cup of barley water.
It may come as no surprise to you that I’m doing a fabulous Wimbledon themed perfume giveaway. Those nice people at Library of Fragrance recently sent me a selection of fragrances: Strawberries & Cream, Grass Court and the quirky New Balls. You can read my verdict on them all here in this review.

After all the excitement of National Fragrance Day, (Boy, was it busy on Twitter!) I thought I’d round things off with a lovely giveaway. Our friends at The Library of Fragrance have very kindly supplied me with a delicious smorgasbord of fragrances. As much as I want to rub my hands together like Gollum murmuring “the precious!” it really is much fairer to spread the joy. Each winner will receive one bottle of their choice. If you don’t win, do visit the Library of Fragrance website where all these and more are available for £15 or sometimes less. You can also find a selection in Boots.
Up for grabs are three great scents from The Library of Fragrance:
Baby Powder is delightfully evocative alone or adds a powdery finish to anything you care to layer it with. It smells exactly like baby powder (or wet wipes) with a uniquely clean, pure finish. It makes you feel all wholesome and as if you want to put a onesie on and have an early night after your bath.
Grass is one of my favourite LOF scents. Refreshing and green, yet juicy and sweet, this is great to wear alone or to layer with fresh, light florals such as LOF Orange Blossom or LOF Freesia.
Salt Air perfectly captures that crest of sea spray that makes you feel so alive when you stroll along the promenade. Somehow salty, fresh and ozonic all at once. You know the song?
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside. I do like to be beside the sea. I do like to walk along the prom prom prom, where the brass band plays tiddly om pom pom.
In case you don’t know it, apologies. If you do, here is today’s earworm that you won’t be able to get out of your head. You’re welcome!
How to Win
Simply tell me which one of the above three fragrances you would like to win. Each winner wins one bottle of their choice. Just comment on the blog, on Twitter (@iscentyouaday), or on the Facebook page. Entries are chosen via Random.org, so friends and family and previous winners can all join in. Because of postal restrictions, the giveaway is only for UK based entrants. Good luck and happy sniffing! The closing date is midnight on March 29th 2016.
Library of Fragrance was quite possibly my favourite launch of 2014. It appears I am not alone because the Library of Fragrance range is now stocked in no less than one thousand branches of Boots, including my local.
Library of Fragrance Thunderstorm smells exactly like it says on the tin, which is kind of a characteristic of Library of Fragrance. They don’t short change you and they don’t pretend to be anything other than what they are. Such lack of pretension is refreshing. How many times have I tried to read the notes of a perfume only to be blinded with PR waffle such as “alluring, unforgettable, feminine, mysterious, sophisticated, enigmatic”…etc ad nauseum, only to be left frustrated and saying: yes but what does it smell like?
When Library of Fragrance puts Thunderstorm on the bottle, they mean it. Thunderstorm opens with a blast of clean, pure ozone, like a pavement after the rain. There are earthy notes, like damp soil, which might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to me Thunderstorm smells pure, like nature unspoilt.
I tried this on my sons. My five year old immediately said “flowers” and my eight year old said it reminded him of that time he fell in the nettles and cut his knee. Both boys picked nature as their comparison. Take from that what you will.
As for me, it reminded me of damp coal, rain drenched peaty earth and the smell of clean wet grass left after a thunderstorm has given the earth a good drenching. This grew and grew on me (the perfume, not the wet grass).
Thunderstorm reminded me of LUSH Smell of Weather Turning which turned my head for all the right reasons. Smell of Weather Turning contains hay, asphalt and mint and believe it or not, it really works as a scent. ( You can find my review on this blog)
The reason I thought of LUSH SOWT it is that it demonstrated to me that a scent from nature can translate well onto skin, which meant that my mind was broadened and ready to welcome Thunderstorm ( But should you want to tone it down or jazz it up, I recommend Library of Fragrance Musk and Library of Fragrance Jasmine, both available from Boots.)
But listen, I have an embarrassment of riches right now with more bottles of perfume than I know what to do with, and that’s saying something for a perfume obsessed perfume blogger.
I am giving away one bottle of Library of Fragrance Thunderstorm and one bottle of Library of Fragrance Jasmine to one lucky reader. Simply comment below or on the Facebook page and tell me one thing you can smell right now.
The closing date is midnight on Wednesday 4th February. Sadly this has to be a UK only give away due to posting regulations.
